to: produce summaries of text selections.
Music

The student performs a varied repertoire of music. The student is
expected to: sing or play a classroom instrument independently or in
groups.
Behavioral Objective:
The student will produce a summary of The Rainbow Fish.
Materials:
Whiteboard, markers, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
North-South books, copyright 1992, New York
ISBN 1-55858-009-3
Activities/Strategies:
Introduce the lesson by having the students make predictions about the
story's plot. Read The Rainbow Fish to the children at the
group rug. Ask the students to give summaries about the story.
Then, ask the students to summarize the story in one word. Write these
words on the whiteboard. For example: (1) fish, (2) sharing, (3)
co-operative.
Process:

Say the words as a class.

Divide class into three
sections. Assign a different word to each group.

Say the words in the three
groups starting with one syllable words. Layer all three words.

Add body percussion.

Drop words, body percussion
alone.

Evaluation:
Observe the students to see if all of the children produced accurate
summaries of the story and can identify which of the three parts are high,
middle, and low.
