Behavioral Objective:
In small groups the students will express themselves by writing a poem and presenting a dramatic interpretation to the class.

Materials:
Various instruments, a picture of a peaceful morning, an overhead projector and the haiku Lazy Morning found at http://www.simplytom.com.

Activities/Strategies:
On the overhead projector show a picture of a still morning and discuss how this makes the children feel.  Then show the poem, Lazy Morning.  Read the poem to the class, and discuss the form of the poem.  Have the class choral read the poem as the teacher performs the movements.  Discuss how these movements portray the poem without acting out the nouns.  Also, discuss how you came up with these movements and how they relate to the poem.

Break the class into groups of three.  Have the students collaborate to create their own poem using an appropriate form for their poem.  Then, have the students create movement which correlates to the poem without acting out the nouns.  Have the students add musical instruments of their choice.  When everyone in the class is complete have each group perform their poem while someone reads the poem.
